Please join the Friends of the Jackson Public Library on Sunday July 21st at 7pm for a slideshow of trekking in the Himalayas with local artist and writer Louise Deretchin.
“We stood in a plywood-walled room, layering on clothing in the early morning darkness, our teeth clenched against the cold. We were first-time trekkers in the Himalayas.” Come listen as Dr. Louise Deretchin reads from her memoir, The Reluctant Mountain Goat, and shares slides of her adventure. The audience will be taken on a journey from palaces and shrines in Kathmandu to high mountain passes.
Louise Deretchin divides her time between homes here in Jackson and Houston, Texas. She is a formally trained artist, with a focus on portrait painting in oils. While child rearing, career building, and earning a Ph.D., she continued to hone her painting and writing skills. The Reluctant Mountain Goat, a travel memoir about an unexpected trek Louise took with her husband in the Himalayas is available on Amazon.com. It is complete with photos of kingdoms and holy sites before the 2015 Nepal earthquake devastation.
This program is free and open to the public, although a $5.00 donation is
welcome to offset presenter expenses. For more information, please contact the Jackson Public Library at 603-383-9731.
