Next book group selection is available

We just wrapped up a wonderful discussion of The Book of Essie by Meghan MacLean Weir. You may know the author's parents, Dan and Jan Weir. Always fun to read a book with a local connection - even better when it is a gripping, fascinating, and thought-provoking one. If you have read The Book of Essie and want to share your thoughts, please leave a comment here.

Our next book is nonfiction and entitled Ghost of the Innocent Man by Benjamin Rachlin. I have copies ready to check out now. Please reserve them online or phone us and we will prepare one for you to pick up. We will discuss it via Zoom at 4:30 on February 9th.

Previous programs are also available.  If you haven't been on the Story Book Trail behind the library, now is a fabulous time to get out!  The current story is The Very Best Bed by Rebekah Raye.  Enjoy!

Honor a friend, gift a book

Do you have someone on your list that you struggle to buy for? Why not honor them with a book in the Library? We have created two fun ways to buy a book to both honor a loved one and contribute our collection.

We have a wish list with White Birch Books, our unbelievable local book store. Simply buy a book we need, support a local business, and donate the book to us when you're done. Everyone wins!

If instant uplift is what you crave, we also offer a direct sponsorship. Donate a flat fee for a book for our collection. We'll order it and process it for our collection with a book plate honoring your generosity. We can even make sure you're first on the hold list so you can wrap it up - just be sure to return it by the due date!

More information on gifting items for our collection on our sponsorship page.

RIP, Mr. Connery

Sean ConneryI defy anyone to say they dislike Sean Connery. You may not like a film he was in or a character he played, but no one dislikes all films and characters. That, to me, is a testament to his versatility and his long career.

I was sad to hear of his death today so I am inspired to assemble a list of Connery-related materials in the library's collection and access.

First, of course, the movies and I am red-faced to tell you the Jackson Library owns but one movie: The Untouchables. No OO7. No Indiana Jones. Not even any romcoms or dramas in which he plays a kindly grandpa. No straight-to-video kids movies! No Hunt for Red October!? Thankfully our relationship with them provides access to the collections at the Conway Public Library, Madison Library, and Cook Memorial Library in Tamworth and between all of us there's lots of Connery to be had.

While you're waiting for cinematic satisfaction to arrive from the other libraries, our databases have some nice background reading on the Man. For access, Patron ID is your JPL library card number.
