We are looking for a staff substitute to call on to cover some vacation days, help out when we are busy or running programs, or step in when someone is sick. You must be comfortable being responsible for library operations, including patron services and building security. Job Title: Library Aide/Staff Substitute
Non-professional, Part-time

Schedule: Up to 60 hours per calendar year; additional hours may be scheduled as needed to replace staff hours. The part-time position is for an average of 3 hours a week and may include Saturdays. This position acts as a substitute for Library Director or Library Assistant position for planned days off or emergency absences, as needed.
Pay Rate: $13.50 per hour
Job Summary: Responsible for opening and closing the library, starting and shutting down public and staff computers, working with volunteers to ensure smooth operation of the library.
Job Requirements:
Education: Minimum high school diploma; preference is for some college or Bachelor’s degree, and library experience.
Library Aide/Staff Substitute must work well with children and adults, be able to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone, enjoy reading, have good computer and internet skills. They must be organized and pay close attention to detail as most library tasks require careful record keeping. Candidate must be willing to accept a flexible schedule as shifts will be based on other staff member’s schedules.
Physical requirements: Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, and agility to reach both the highest and lowest shelves in the Library.
Duties include:
Opening and closing the Library, helping the public at the circulation desk, using the library’s computer and software for circulation functions, helping library users find materials and answer simple reference questions, help public computer users with simple computer tasks (e.g., printing documents, opening programs, etc.), and placing patron materials requests.
Benefits: There is no vacation or sick time associated with this position. Library Aide/Staff Substitute will be covered under Town’s Worker’s Compensation Insurance.
Training: will be provided on use of library’s automation software, record keeping, library’s online services to the public, and basic functions of public computers.
