You probably know that in 2013 our library the Madison Library and the Cook Memorial Library in Tamworth to form the Northern NH Library Cooperative. This allowed us to share resources to save money and to provide expanded services to you.
At that time, we contracted for a shared library catalog using open source software called Koha. Sharing a catalog also made sharing collections much easier. So many of you have enjoyed being able to easily place holds and request items from all three libraries. Fewer, but some of you also take advantage of using Jackson library card to check items out directly from the other libraries.
I am proud and happy to share with you that this month, Northern NH Library Cooperative will welcome Conway Public Library as a new member.
This means that you when you search for items, you will see Conway’s holdings as well as those of ours, Madison’s, and Cook’s. You will be able to easily search, browse, and place holds on items from all four libraries. It also means that full- and part-time resident card holders can use their Jackson library card to check items out while visiting one of the other three libraries.
Because public libraries in New Hampshire are funded by local property taxes and other funds raised locally, NNHLC has decided that they cannot require sharing between member libraries extend beyond the towns that are funding the cooperative. Each library will set their own policy regarding nonresident card holders from the other member towns. In other words if you live in Bartlett and buy a card here at the Jackson Public Library, you may not be able to use it in Conway, Madison, and Tamworth – that decision is up to them. Check in before you drive, but you may still request items from those libraries sent here for checkout! I know it’s confusing, you’ll catch on. Ask lots of questions!
This will open a giant new collection to you and make getting them quicker and easier for us. We believe you will like the changes, and will join us in welcoming Conway Public Library to our cooperative!
