Upcoming titles for book group

The Library’s Book Group met last night. We discussed the graphic memoir book, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. Like many people, I think, I had sneered at graphic novels as comic books and put them low on my academic-value scale. (Don’t we all have one?) Having read two now, I have really come around to the genre as able to communicate in a completely new and different way.

Discussing a book always surprises me with how much more I learn. It exposes the assumptions I make about other people and their perceptions – everyone sees things the way I do, right? And also how much more depth you can get from a book by talking about it. Of course, we are privileged in Jackson to have so many experienced, astute, and educated people among us.

Today I finalized the next several months of discussion books. The next title is by Ruth Ware, who wrote The Woman in Cabin 10. It’s called In a Dark Dark Wood and there are copies available at the Library and for download.

We are always happy to have new folks come. We meet at the Library on the second Tuesday of each month at 4:30pm. Our conversations usually last an hour or so. I hope to see you there!
